1. In die tijd spraken alle mensen één taal. |
Tot pământul avea o singură limbă şi aceleaşi cuvinte. |
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. |

2. De bevolking groeide en trok in oostelijke richting. Toen ontdekte men in het land Sinear een grote vlakte, waar het goed wonen was. Veel mensen trokken daarheen en het werd een dichtbevolkt gebied. |
Pornind ei înspre răsărit, au dat peste o câmpie în ţara Şinar; şi au descălecat acolo. |
And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. |

3-4. De bewoners van die vlakte waren van plan een grote stad te bouwen. In die stad moest een grote tempeltoren komen te staan, die tot in de hemel reikte. Een eeuwig monument voor de bouwers. "Op die manier krijgen we een centrale plaats voor onze mensen, zodat we niet steeds verder hoeven te zwerven", meenden zij. En zo begon de bouw van de stad. Er werden grote hoeveelheden stenen gebakken en als cement gebruikten zij asfalt. |
Şi au zis unul către altul: „Haidem! să facem cărămizi, şi să le ardem bine în foc.” Şi cărămida le-a ţinut loc de piatră, iar smoala le-a ţinut loc de var. Si au mai zis: „Haidem! să ne zidim o cetate şi un turn al cărui vârf să atingă cerul, şi să ne facem un nume, ca să nu fim împrăştiaţi pe toată faţa pământului.” |
And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. |

5-6. Toen de HERE de bouw van de stad en de toren zag, zei Hij: "Kijk eens wat zij al bereiken nu ze nog maar aan het begin van hun samenwerking staan. Voor dit volk met zijn ene taal zal voortaan niets meer onmogelijk zijn! |
Domnul S'a pogorât să vadă cetatea şi turnul, pe care-l zideau fiii oamenilor.Şi Domnul a zis: „Iată, ei sânt un singur popor, şi toţi au aceeaşi limbă; şi iacă de ce s-au apucat; acum nimic nu i-ar împiedeca să facă tot ce şi-au pus în gând. |
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. |

7. Laten Wij afdalen en hun verschillende talen geven, zodat zij elkaar niet meer begrijpen!" |
Haidem! să Ne pogorâm şi să le încurcăm acolo limba, ca să nu-şi mai înţeleagă vorba unii altora.” |
Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. |

8. Op die manier verspreidde God de mensen over de hele aarde en zij stopten met de bouw van de stad. |
Şi Domnul i-a împrăştiat de acolo pe toată faţa pământului; aşa că au încetat să zidească cetatea |
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. |

9. Daarom werd die stad Babel (Verwarring) genoemd. Dat was de plaats, waar de HERE verwarring onder de mensen stichtte door hun verschillende talen te geven en over de hele aarde te verspreiden. |
De aceea cetatea a fost numită Babel, căci acolo a încurcat Domnul limba întregului pământ, şi de acolo i-a împrăştiat Domnul pe toată faţa pământului. |
Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. |
